Sales Engineering University, Sales Consulting, World Domination & Youtube: The Sales Engineer
After using Freemind for several years, I have been convinced to use XMind. A very interesting set of options is now available to me, but I am moving from freeware to open source, and yes, there is a difference. Anyway, we’re talking about something called “Mind Mapping”:
If you have never used brainstorming-style software, you really should> I like it to organize a set of ideas, or system components, into an ordered, hierarchical graph, or representation. If you have never used such software, you might not even have experience thinking like this.
I also use it to break down classes and their subordinate classes so developers know exactly how to create an EDM, for example. I can go all the way down to class methods & attributes and still not clutter up the diagram. That is because each stem/branch can be collapsed or expanded.
I’m glad already I made the switch, and by the way; XMind imports Freemind files!
I’ve been designing a software product seriously for coming up on three years now, and a further two before that just convincing myself it was possible. The product operates on collected data and creates interesting relationships between them. Really, that is all there is to it. But like any simple objective, the road has become longer and more circuitous that we could have ever imagined.
The idea isn’t new, but the tools available today make it practical. Those tools are computers. Computers, though, need things represented as numbers. They crunch those numbers, and out comes a number. Sound familiar Douglas Adams fans?
The problem for me was routine up until the point where I had to interpret, and establish as events, text. The problem of textual language represented in computers is actually much older than AI (Artificial Intelligence). Continue reading “How to [Define, Describe, Classify, Group, Find] Everything?”
“No updates are required, a feature that provides protection against so-called zero-day attacks. The software package, which is sold by subscription within the SaaS ( News – Alert) model, is compatible with al websites and web servers. The platform is operated and managed at BinarySEC data centers and any website can be protected in minutes.”
A Sales Engineer is always on the road, and always has her/his laptop. We often need to make calls that aren’t company calls that we don;t want showing up on the company’s bill. We also find ourselves needing to call work discretely in areas where there is Internet (client site) but no cell phone coverage.
And what about those of us that receive calls from all kinds of people throughout the peak hours of our cell carrier, yet don’t want those minutes taken off our allowance?
What is an enterprising Sales Engineer to do?
I was always frustrated at how Skype was too bulky (kills your battery), and was open to government inspection of content. I don’t use it. Like Gizmo, they get paid for “Skype Out” at a hefty fee. There had to be a better way. Other services I have, like GTalk, don’t even allow for calling land lines. Well, there is a way.
