Grab all Google Calendar events to Excel!

There is a site out there that charges $15/month to allow you to download calendars you have access to to a Google Docs Spreadsheet. Someone I know was thinking about buying this, so I went out and wrote a utility that does just what these people charge for.

It works with ANY Google Calendar (GCal), meaning private or corporate.

The link is here, and you can copy it and use it to your heart’s content. Don’t blame me for anything other than saving money.

The first nice thing I did was have instructions come up when you open the spreadsheet. You first go to the config tab, and set what you want to download:

Just adjust values in the green cells, and you can’t lose! There is a relatively complicated search available, and it can handle any number of target calendars.

There is only one thing to remember:

If you can see it in your Google Calendar, this will find it!

Here are the notes (from the config tab):

  • The ‘config’ tab can be hidden.
  • Search is case-insensitive (nice!).
  • The order you put ‘Calendar Emails’ in is the order they are put into the ‘data’ tab.
  • Calendar events are output in chronological order (old -> new).
  • Complex searches are a little funky. Try to avoid special characters.
  • Search string needs to be 4 or more characters long to be considered. Otherwise all events are shown, just like if left blank.

  • Please tell me if you find a mistake/bug-especially if you have a fix! :)

Just let me know if it is of use to you, or if you want to send me $15 each month out of the goodness of your heart!

Written in GAS in like 3 hours, as I’d never done anything with the GCal API before…
