I’m usually a brand name shopper, so it was uncommon for me to order an Asian no-name IP camera from geeks.com. Ends up it came from Taipei from a company called Edimax. But the mystery is just starting.

The phone is referred to by several confusing models:

-gcj51w (alleged manufacturer’s model number, per geeks.com
-MJPEG Internet Camera (on the app/doc CDROM)
-IC 1500 (in the on-board web configurator)
-IC-3010WG (from the company website picture, not features)
-IC-1500WG (from the website features, not picture)

So what is this thing? It appears to be a scaled back version of the IC-1500WG in that it doesn’t have all the bells & whistles, such as 2-way audio, etc. Check out the features pages above to see what I mean.
I got this one as it was the cheapest 802.11b/g self-contained camera I could find. I surprisingly am not disappointed.

Ask A Sales Engineer

“What is Enterprise Sales”?

Good question. I get this question more often than you’d think-probably once per week on average. Today was the last time, so I thought I’d address it in an article.

All of my Sales/Sales Engineering methodologies are short, easy to understand and elegant. I use this method as it is easier for non-Sales Engineers to remember. Complicated doesn’t cut it with people under stress with a lot to remember already. So it is fitting that I treat the expression “enterprise” no differently.

Enterprise anything relates to people, places, things, or opportunities that involve strategic management, or management elements, in any company, group, or institution.

I came across this simple trick purely by accident when setting up lighting for a room full of furniture. I ended up supplying indirect/direct lighting for an entire scene with a single light and a plane. The great part of this technique is that it renders really fast.

For a test of how this works, setup a standard scene with a V-Ray Plane that has a checker diffuse. Add a teapot to the center of the scene, with any material. Lastly, add a standard Target Spot above the scene. Crank up the intensity multiplier to 3.0. The scene should look a little like this:
